Liberia

Avispa's Liberia Adventure

Liberia, “Ciudad Blanca” (White City), is the capital of Guanacaste one of Costa Rica’s seven provinces and is the most colonial city in the country.  Liberia received it’s name from the red-tile roofed buildings that are made from ignimbrite, a hard rock formed by solidification of chiefly fine deposits of volcanic ash, as white as burning magnesium, Traditionally Liberia served the cattle ranching cowboy, but in modern time, cultures have merged and has adapted to a widespread community to include locals and tourist alike. This is evident with Monumento Sabanero, a life-size bronzed cowboy, and El Boyero, a life-size bronzed ox and oxcart, representing the strong history of the city with Burger King and Papa Johns only a few blocks away. Visit Liberia’s’ modern church “Iglesia Inmaculada Concepcion de Maria”, in Central Park, La Argonia the oldest church. (Also referred to as La Inglesia de la Ermita de Resureccion) and adobe homes that date back over 150 years.  Finish you adventure with some local dining and shopping.
