Avispa’s Adventures is holding its 3rd annual Christmas Celebration this year! Due to these economic times, we realize that fewer individuals are in the position to help us, help the community. However, we are also aware that because of the same, there are more families, (and children) that will have difficulty this holiday season.
We would still like to share the Holiday Joy at three separate Christmas Parties. We estimate that we will once again have at least 500 underprivileged kids in which we will provide with a hot meal and a personal gift (they all have their individual names on them) from Santa.
The First party is scheduled for December 18th for the kids at the School in Corralillos, Filadelfia. (150+ students)

THANK YOU!
Avispa’s
Adventures held its 2st annual Christmas Celebration this year! And TALK about Spreading the Christmas
Spirit! Thanks to you, Avispa’s Adventures was able to share the Holiday Joy
with three separate Christmas Parties this year. As a result of all of your
contributions, together, we were able to feed and provide gifts
to over 500 underprivileged kids in Playas del Coco, Guardia and Corralillos
The First party was for the kids at
the School in Corralillos,
Filadelfia. The party was held on December 19th at the school. “Arroz con Pollo” (Chicken and Rice) was given
to the students prior to our arrival.
The kids were anxiously awaiting “Colacho” (SANTA) when we arrived. Santa distributed over 150 gifts to the
students and Santa’s Helpers gave everyone a homemade ice cream. This was the
first time the school was ever able to provide a Christmas Party for the kids
and in many cases the only Christmas gift they have ever received!

The
Second Party was held in the town of Guardia. Over 110 Kids from Guardia as well as Los Altos
del Roble and La Cascada received gifts from Santa. “Colacho” made his appearance right after the
kids had pizza and soda. In many cases this was the first time the kids had
ever tried PIZZA! Papa Johns pizza was a hit! The Kids and their parents were
also given a homemade ice cream.

The
Third party was held in a small

brought) the highlight of this party was the face Painting. Thanks Madilin Nixon! (Madilin also took the
time to teach two local volunteers so that we can continue the tradition for
years to come) Santa provided gifts to over 250 kids. Santa’s Helpers (From the
US, Canada and Costa Rica) distributed a light lunch (“Arroz con
Pollo” -Chicken and Rice) to an estimated 275 people.

All three parties were a great
success thanks to all of you! Not only were we able to reach our goal, we were
able to pass it! This year we were able to provide gifts to 4 times the number
of kids that we did last year. THANK YOU!
School supplies and new/used
clothing will be distributed to these communities at the beginning of February.

Avispa’s
Adventures is actively collecting Christmas gifts and financial donations for
this year’s Christmas Party. We currently have 219 kids registered to
receive gifts at the Playas del Coco Party and plan to provide lunch to over
300 people.
Depending on the support that we receive we may also
be able to supply Christmas Gifts to the kids at the school in Corralillos, Filadelfia.
If you would like to help us, help the community,
please select a name (or 2 or 3...) from the list and bring a Christmas gift
for them or purchase one while you are in Costa Rica.
We ask that you spend about $5 per name and that you
not purchase any food items
If you have a specific child that you would like the
gift to go to, please email Amy with your intent to provide a gift to that
child. If you are traveling with children you can also have them select a gift
for a child their age.
Santa will distribute the gifts at the Christmas party.
Anyone planning to be in Costa Rica (Playa del Coco
area) for Christmas, is welcome to attend (or help out at) the party.

Avispa’s Adventures has received a
number of donations to date, this year.
We would like to thank Ron Nelson and
his crew of fellow educators for their financial donation to benefit the school
in
Corralillos, Filadelfia. Ron and his
crew dropped in with the intention to observe and learn about Costa Rican
schools. They ended up teaching the kids
a few songs ….a little English and most importantly starting a great relationship
between the school and Avispa’s Adventures.
The school has provided us with a “wish list” for anyone that would like to help them:

Hola! Soy el profesor de cómputo de la
escuela de Corralillos, en Filadelfia. Esta es la lista de algunas de las
necesidades que tenemos en nuestra escuela. Cualquier ayuda que ustedes nos
puedan brindar será bien recibida, ya que manos que dan nunca estarán
limpias!!!
(Hello! I am the computer teacher at the
school in Corralillos in Filadelfia. Here is the list of some of the needs that we
have in our school. Whatever assistance you can provide will be well
appreciated, as the hands that give will never be empty!!!)

THANK YOU!
Avispa’s Adventures held it's 1st annual Christmas party in a small “barrio” outside of Playas del Coco on December 25, 2007. It was a great success thanks to all of you. Special thanks go out to everyone that brought donations threwout the year. As a result of all of your contributions, together, we were able to provide gifts to over 125 under privileged kids and feed over 160 people. (Pictures still to come!)
School supplies and new/used clothing were distributed to over 15 families at the beginning of February.

The Crawley Family: Their Financial Contribution, donation of used clothing and their hands on participation during the preparation and party itself made this party a success. * This family also brought to Costa Rica the majority of the donations provided by the following:

Avispa’s Adventures continues to collect school supplies and new/ used toys, clothing and household items. New items will be kept for Christmas 2008 and used items will be distributed as the need arises. (Unless other preferences are made by the donating individual)
AVISPAS ADVENTURES would like to invite you to assist us in helping the communities/ community members less fortunate.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Most people traveling on vacation pack a suitcase…and a carry on…however people traveling from overseas are usually allowed:
2 check bags, (usually up t0 50 LBS and 62 inches)
1 carry-on AND
1 personal item (Purse, back-pack, computer bag, brief case) –
PLEASE CHECK WITH YOUR AIRLINE/CHARTER COMPANY FOR SPACIFIC INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE!
If you have any items that you would like to donate you could bring them in your extra bag. (…and have plenty of room to take your souvenirs home with you!) You can give it to us to distribute for you or if you more comfortable you can distribute your donations directly...Whatever you would like!
New items will probably be distributed at Christmas…if that is OK with you.
Immediate Items can include:

New/Used Toys
Non perishable food items
Baby Items
Items for Christmas can include:
New Toys
New Clothing
New School Supplies (The school year is from Feb-Dec but some kids do not start in Feb because they cannot afford their school supplies)
