The Gulf of Papagayo is known to be one of the best deep sea sport fishing locations in Costa Rica and around the world. The Golf of Papagayo offers spectacular offshore and inshore catches. It is the gateway to world class fishing in both the Bat Islands and the Catalina Islands. Costa Rica’s famous year round Catches can include: Marlins (Blue Marlin, Black Marlin and Striped Marlin), Yellow Fin Tuna, Pacific Mackerel, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi (Dorado), Rooster Fish and Sail Fish, to name a few. However, some species are more prevalent during specific seasons.
SAILFISH:
April to September (90 LBS. to 110 LBS range)
BLACK MARLIN:
April to August with a high in May, (300 LBS. to 400 LBS. range)
BLUE AND STRIPPED MARLIN:
November to March. (Blues-200 LBS. to 300 LBS and Striped- 120 to 175 LBS)
ROOSTERFISH:
November to March (30 LBS to 80 LBS)
MAHI MAHI (DORADO):
May to October (5 LBS to 50LBS)
YELLOWFIN TUNA:
May to November, (10LBS to 20 LBS. occasional off shore 50 lbs to 150 LBS)
In attempt to preserve the marine resources, our Capitans encourage “Catch and release” for all non-edible catches and all bill fish. (Marlin, Sailfish and Rooster Fish to name a few) Otherwise feel free to take your catch with you. (Cleaned of course)

Rates are per boat, NOT per person (except for additional persons).
Rates Include: Captain, Mate, Bait, Tackle, Beverages and Fruits/Snacks. A Light lunch is provided on Full day Fishing Excursions.
Boats are based out of Playas del Coco, Playa Ocotal and Playa Hermosa, Guanacaste. Complimentary pick up from the beach of your hotel in these areas is included in the above prices. Please contact Avispa's Adventures directly for Fishing services in other areas.
